Bowel Cancer Awareness Event

On 23^rd March 2013 between 10am and 4pm a large, Inflatable Bowel will be exhibited on the circular concrete area near the large screen in the Town Square.

Tours through the 2.4 metre high inflatable bowel will be offered, with a Colorectal Nurse Specialist. There will be a dietician/nurse running BMI’s and advising visitors on healthy diet and lifestyle, asking passers-by short questions on their knowledge of bowel cancer.

This event is working in conjunction with the NHS Waltham Forest and the Be Clear on Cancer Campaign.

Market Day Business Challenge Saturday 9th March 2013

On Saturday 9th March 2013 the London Borough of Waltham Forest Street Trading service in partnership with Raise Your Game are having a Market Day Business Challenge where young people who have attended a start-up business course will be open for business for one day in the Market.

You will find their stalls at the St. James Street end of the market, along with existing St. James Street hub traders.

So come and support local entrepreneurs in action.

Business as usual at Walthamstow Market

As you may be aware Thames Water have started their Victorian Water Mains replacement work at the top of the High Street.

All businesses and market stalls will be open as usual and pedestrian access will be maintained, however many of the market stalls have temporarily relocated to either the Town Square or the Arcade site at the junction of Hoe Street.

The Council are working closely with Thames Water, Optimise and the Market Traders to minimise any disruption this work may cause.

The works in the High Street began on 14 January and is expected to be completed by 30 June 2013. To carry out this work as quickly and safely as possible, the work will be split into four separate, six week ‘phases’, which are detailed below.

Phase 1 – Outside number 259 High Street to junction with Westbury Road
Phase 2 – Westbury Avenue to Erskine Road
Phase 3 – Erskine Road to Storey Road
Phase 4 - Storey Road to Palmerston Road

Come on down and enjoy a trip around the gastronomic world by walking down to the food section of the market, between the junctions with Carisbrooke Road and Pretoria Avenue.

The food court at the St. James Street hub of the market is growing with the addition of new and exciting food stalls.

Recently we have added stalls offering exciting street foods such as bagels, baguettes and wraps; Chinese food; Gyros and Hungarian Chimney Cakes.

This is alongside our ever popular regular Caribbean, African, East European and American varieties of food stalls. On Saturdays there is now a dedicated seating area for you to enjoy this fantastic produce.
